Introducing Kiltie

Kiltie
|
Kiltie is a beautiful little Golden
Retriever born July 7, 2002. We graduated from Canine Companions
for Independence on May 22, 2004 in Santa Rosa where she had been
in advanced training since November. Her puppy-raisers, Patty,
Dennis, Jon and Chris Daniels are from El Dorado Hills, CA. They
were also her breeder-caretakers.
She is full of youthful energy and
loves to work. The first day we were allowed to take the dogs to
our dorm rooms, I tossed my wheeling gloves on the bed and one of
them fell off. She immediately picked it up and started talking to
me before I could even get it from her. It was like she was saying,
"Don’t worry about it. That’s what I’m here for."
She is smaller than Shelby by 15 pounds and a couple of inches. Her
fur is straight. She has the same golden smile and personality that
we all know and love. She is happiest when she’s close to me and
loves to cuddle on the bed.
When we got home from training, I
let her explore the house, keeping an eye on her but giving her
space to see what she would do. She has already made herself at
home and seems very comfortable here. She has some big paws to fill
but is up for the challenge. She has not taken over any of Shelby’s
spaces, which she identified on her own. This should help Shelby’s
transition home in a couple of weeks. Kiltie really loves to run in
the back yard.

Sally & Kiltie in Team Training
|
(Some folks wonder how CCI dogs are
named. Sometimes the pups are named in honor of someone. Kiltie was
not. A kiltie is the leather fringed piece that covers the laces on
golf shoes. I think that’s pretty appropriate given we reside in
Sun City.)
