Day 8 (May 11, 2002)Kent's chemotherapy seems to be working and his oncologist is pleased with his progress. Thursday he started moving his left ankle some and he has more movement in his toes. The therapy has however entered a new stage and his white blood cell count is very low which will make him susceptible to infection. He must now limit visitors to be safe. If you are interested in visiting, please coordinate through me either via e-mail at sally@SimcoeCommunications.com (early morning/evening/weekend messages) or sally_simcoe@hp.com (weekday messages before 2:00 p.m.) or cell phone at 916-223-1499 so we don't overwhelm his system. Please -- Visitors must be healthy (no sniffles or coughs). The smallest infection could be disasterous for him. Shelby has to stay in her "dog cave" in his room, and they cannot have direct contact. The staff has basically removed all non-essential items from the room. He is not allowed flowers (all of the ones he has received have been moved to the nurse's station). He is on a controlled diet. So please, NO FOOD, GIFTS or FLOWERS. Cards and e-mails are great. Thanks again for your understanding, prayers, love, and support. Sally Simcoe
