In Loving Memory (May 26, 2002)
Hello Sally, I'm human, so there are no words that I can think of that will help, but I do have a couple of things to say about Kent; I will always remember that special twinkle in his eyes whenever you were talking to him. The other, is something that is bound to a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr.: " Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. " I can think of no person I have ever met that brought so much light and love to whatever he did. Via con Dios,
Dear Friends, I count among my many blessings the acquaintance of Kent Simcoe, and recognize in his friendship the heart of a real gentleman. The world will be missing a great man in his passing. Mark Jaffe
Kent was the first person I met when I applied for a job with HP in 1973. He was my "interview host" and as such, met me for breakfast on the day of the big interviews. After breaking bread with Kent that morning and enjoying his energy and sense of humor, I felt completely prepared for the rest of the day. He holds a special place in my heart among the hundreds, if not thousands, of HP people I worked with over the next 28 years. Mike Hetrick
Sally I have been trying all day to think of what to write and having no luck. I am not good at times like these. I am so sorry to hear about Kent, but glad that he will not suffer anymore. At times like this, I try to think of simple things that help me to realize that God does things for a reason. The one I came up with now is, I can hear the CCI speaker in heaven saying Kent Simcoe has been placed with a male Golden Retriever named Chako (I'm not sure if you heard 2 year old Chako--a Jolin pup--dead last week). I would like to think that God needed them both so they could be together in heaven. These little things may sound silly, but they help me deal with losses. I never met Kent, but feel that I know you from your website postings. Every time I would get on the computer, I would look for an update. Last night, I was thinking it had been a while since your last post. I went to the website and realized you had never gone that long without a post. I was hoping that I wouldn't get the post that I got this morning. You, Kent and Shelby put up a good fight with the best possible positive attitude. I want you to know that you all have been and will continue to be in my
prayers.
Sally; I am so sorry to hear of Kent's passing. My heart is very, very heavy. Although I haven't seen you guys in a few years, I still felt very close to you both with all of your communiqués. They were always filled with lots of love and GREAT information of your lives. They were very uplifting and I was very moved you always kept me in the loop. Kent was a wonderful man. I will always remember his bright smile, his cheery disposition and his extremely bass voice in the choir. He seemed to always approach life with a very uplifting attitude. He is a remarkable person and I feel very blessed to have been a part of his and your life. I know that this is a very, very difficult time for you after having gone through this with my sister last fall. And right now you really don't know what tomorrow will bring. But always know that Kent will ALWAYS be with you---he is now an angel in your pocket. God Bless you and Shelby. My prayers continue to be with you both durring this difficult time. Debbie Hilton "And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
This memorial site will be expanding. If you would like to send something to share, please click this link. He meant a lot to a lot of people, probably more than any of us can realize. Photos are a welcome addition. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Kent's memory to Canine Companions for Independence or Pleasant Grove Community Church, his 2 favorite charities.
